HOW TO ADD A NETWORK TO METAMASK WALLET – BINANCE CHAIN, ZKSYNC, ARBITRUM, OPTIMISM

If you are wondering how to set up different blockchains or Networks on your Metamask wallet or the best place to get the correct Network setting for the different blockchains for your wallet, this article will help you with just that and more. Whether it is the familiar chains like the Binance Smart Chain, Polygon, Gnosis, Fanthom, Avalanche, or the Ethereum Layer 2 Chains such as Optimism, Arbitrum, and zkSync. As a matter of fact, all chains -including both Main Nets and Testnets.

Two Methods

There are two approaches to adding any chain to your MetaMask Wallet. These are

  1. Manual Method
  2. Direct Wallet Connection

Below is a step-by-step process for each of the methods. But first of all, you must have your MetaMask Wallet set. (If you are a beginner, find out here HOW TO SET UP A METAMASK WALLET FOR BEGINNERS )

Method 1: Manual Approach

Step 1: Click on the Default “Ethereum Mainnet”

Login to your MetaMask and click on Ethereum Mainnet to add a new Network as indicated in the screenshot

Step 2: Add Network

Click on “Add Network” to add a new Network.

Step 3: Select A Network Or Manually Add One

MetaMask has a list of common Networks or chains for you to select from. The Mainnet of many of the popular networks is indicated. Simply just click on the “Add” button indicated for each Network.

If the Network you intend to add is not present, you will then need to use the Option of adding it manually by clicking on “Add a network manually” at the bottom of the list.

Step 4: Enter the Network Settings Manually (For zkSync Era Mainnet)

The best source of your Network setting besides the default ones in the MetaMask wallet is to use one from a reliable source.

In this example, zkSync is used with details below

Name : zkSync Era Mainnet

  • New RPC URL: https://zksync2-mainnet.zksync.io
  • Chain ID: 324
  • Currency Symbol: ETH

Enter the above details in the appropriate column

There is a warning message you should be aware of if you are adding any network settings manually.

A malicious network provider can lie about the state of the blockchain and record your network activity. Only add custom networks you trust.

Step 5: Fill In The Details And Click “Save”

Fill in the details and then save the configuration.

Completed.

Method 2

This method is simpler and the chances for error are minimal.

Step 1: Go to https://chainlist.org/

Input the Network and navigate the search bar.

Step 2: Search For The Chain or Network

Click on the search bar or scroll down the list to get the network you intend to add and then click “Connect” to connect your MetaMask wallet.

Step 3: Click On “Connect”

Connect your wallet and then click on “Next”

Step 4: Approve the Connection

Approve the connection after connecting to the MetaMask wallet

Approve the connection.

Step 5: Complete And Switch the Network

Complete and Switch the Network to zkSync

Completed

Conclusion

Using Chainlist.org is one of the two main ways to set up a new network on MetaMask. The other method involves manually entering the RPC configuration and saving the configuration. It is important to use the correct configuration when entering the details manually. Bad configuration can lead to wallet compromise.
